Are you an Excellent Learning Facilitator? Complete our Questionnaire to find out.

Webster's Dictionary defines 'Facilitation' as 'increased ease of performance of any action.' That is a very good place to start to understand how an Excellent Learning Facilitator does their job.

The role of a Learning Facilitator is to make learning as easily performed as possible - an Excellent Learning Facilitator can ensure this happens without the learners even knowing it has occurred. An Excellent Learning Facilitator can make it easy for someone to learn whether working alone or in a group.

By contrast, 'Facilitation' is usually a group activity and is defined as a set of tools and techniques, added to an intuitive mindset which combine to help a group achieve what they want or need to do or get where they want or need to go.

Of course, there are similarities - the best Facilitator may make an outcome look easy but will have spent much time in preparation and will be watching and listening throughout the intervention to make sure that the outcome is being achieved. An Excellent Learning Facilitator, likewise, will have clear outcomes and learning objectives, thus easing learners into a comfortable place where they will see that these have been achieved.

One attendee on a Facilitated Learning workshop said "No wonder I didn't learn at school - I was taught. If I only I had been allowed and assisted to learn"

An Excellent Learning Facilitator looks, listens, and engages with the learner to ensure success - structured pragmativity is the key. For more information on Excellent Learning Facilitation, see workshops
