Qualifications for Trainers

TPMA (Trainer Performance Monitoring & Assessment)

Is the Institute of IT Training's (IITT) new service resulting in an exciting, jointly awarded training certificate from the British Computer Society (BCS) and IITT - ICTP (Institute Certified Training Practitioner)

PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)

The Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) award is an introductory qualification for people aiming to teach, tutor or train in post-16 education. PTLLS is the foundation award for both teachers and trainers in the UK.

Following an extensive programme of research and development, the TPMA assessment combines Government, BCS (ACTT) and IITT standards (relating to delivery skills in the classroom) to create a best of breed, de facto, standard for trainers, tutors and teachers.

The TPMA assessment provides evidence that can be added to, in the form of a wider portfolio of evidence, which can then lead to the achievement of the nationally recognised qualification PTLLS the foundation award for teachers and trainers.

Q: Why assess the performance of trainers?

A: To ensure that:

  • The quality of all training is performed and monitored to the highest quality standards
  • The learners actually acquire a sound learning experience and that the learning acquired is able to be applied within the learner's workplace;
  • All training delivery is consistent and monitored for quality across the organisation.

The competency measures covered by the TPMA assessment are aligned to national standards, and the framework is maintained and governed externally and independently by the IITT, and is linked to each trainer's Continuing Professional Development.

TPMA ensures that every training professional:

  • Facilitates/delivers learning which can be measured within the national standards framework
  • Receives objective guidance on potential improvement and developmental activity which should link to individual's appraisals
  • Provides the employer with an objective benchmark to monitor the performance and quality of all trainers and the learning for all employees
  • Is able to build on evidence from the assessment and actively work towards achieving a nationally recognised level 3/4 qualification under the Qualifications and Credit Framework

Matrix FortyTwo is an IITT Authorised Qualification and Assessment Centre offering a range of workshops, assessment and support to help trainers meet the TPMA standards and actively supports trainers using this as a springboard to achieving the accredited qualification PTLLS. Our TPMA team has a combined experience of more than 80 years as learning and development professionals.
